Smart Magazine Making at Focal Point Art Book Fair 2025
12—14 December

Workshop at the Sharjah Art Foundation in the UAE

As part of Focal Point 2025, Sharjah’s annual art book fair organised by the Sharjah Art Foundation, Prof. Lars Harmsen and Marian Misiak of Threedotstype led the workshop “Smart Magazine Making”, held on Sunday, 14 December, from 5 to 7 PM. The session brought together more than ten participants, all keen to explore the intersections of design, typography, and independent publishing.

The workshop offered a hands-on introduction to editorial design and experimental magazine production. Instead of focusing solely on theory, participants were encouraged to learn through practice, working with found printed materials that were cut, rearranged, and recombined to produce mini magazines on the spot. The process fostered experimentation through intuitive cutting, layering, arranging, and composing of content.
