Excursion to Venice
3.-9. 11. 2024
As every year, we are planning an excursion to the Biennale in Venice. There, we will meet Students and professors from other universities for joint workshops and visits to the Biennale. The following universities have confirmed their participation:
BI / Berlin International
HS Coburg
HS Mannheim
FH Dortmund
This year marks the 60th Biennale of Contemporary Art. The Biennale is one of the most important international exhibitions of contemporary art. Since 1895, it has attracted artists, gallery owners, and art enthusiasts to Venice every two years. The curator of the 60th Biennale is the Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa, the first Latin American to hold this position.
Sunday 3.11. — Arrival
Monday 4. — Gathering and Workshop Introduction
Tuesday 5. — Wednesday 6. — Workshops and Visit to the Biennale (Giardini and Arsenale)
Thursday 7. — Workshop finalisation, Evening presentation of results
Friday 8. — Sightseeing Tours. Free time. Evening Party
Saturday 9.11. — Departure
The exhibitions are located in individual pavilions that are freely accessible, as well as in the main exhibitions in the main exhibitions at Giardini and Arsenale. For the main exhibitions, students receive discounted tickets for €16.
Giardini
The exhibition grounds occupy a part of the public gardens, the Giardini Pubblici. The German Pavilion was redesigned in 1938 by architect Ernst Haiger on behalf of the Nazis and has since possessed an almost intimidating monumentality. In 2024, curator Çağla Ilk (currently co-director of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden) will fill the space with works that question nationalist thinking.
Arsenale
During the time of the Republic, the 316-meter-long Corderia Hall of the shipyard complex was used to manufacture ship ropes.
Travel
There is a night train to Venice and some other trains over Munich. There is also a Flixbus from Heidelberg and other cities in Germany. Please try not to fly.
For those arriving by plane, the most convenient way to reach Venice is by taking the ATVO Bus or ACTV Bus. In about half an hour, you will reach Venice via the bridge and Piazzale Roma next to the Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia railway station, the endpoint for all motor vehicles. Tickets cost only €10.
Alilaguna Water Buses: The company Alilaguna offers three different lines (Blue, Orange, and Red) for its water buses, which stop at several stops in the center from Venice Airport. Depending on your destination, the journey takes between half an hour and an hour. The price for a one-way trip is €15, and you can reserve your ticket in advance. Please pay attention to the departure times, as fewer boats operate on some routes.
Vaporetto
The water taxi in Venice is not a must, but practical. All tickets can be purchased at ACTV Vaporetto counters.
75 minutes Vaporetto ticket: €9.50 per person.
1-Day Ticket €25.00 24 hours from validation
2-Day Ticket €35.00 48 hours from validation
3-Day Ticket €45.00 72 hours from validation
7-Day Ticket €65.00 168 hours from validation
Accommodation
There are a number of hotels next to the train station in Mestre (direct train to Venice about 10min, around 1.50€) which offer a very good price.
Many students did choose the Adna hostel
In Venice: Rent an apartment an share it with other students. Do not choose the Generator hostel because it is on the Guidecca Island and you would need a Vaporetto ticket for all the days which is expensive.
